| NY Times magazine inquiry | Hello. I am a freelance writer and I do some work with the New York Times Magazine. I'm interested in pitching my editor a story about stay at home dads. I'm particularly curious about whether there has been any research done on the children of stay at home dads and what effect being raised by a father has on children. I've seem some studies on the positive impact of a father's increased role in raising a child but have not come across any studies looking at child development when the father is the primary care giver. Are you aware of any such studies ongoing research in this area? | Jim Rendon | February 15th, 2010 |

| KCPQ NEWS STORY (P.S. We invited her to a specific playdate; she never showed up.) | Hi! My name is Dana Rebik and I am a new reporter at Q13 FOX News here in Seattle. I am trying to enterprise stories I would like to cover in the coming weeks and would love to do a piece on your stay at home dad group. I think it would make a great TV news story, interviewing dads in the group, talking about the importance of the group and highlighting any new "Mr. Mom's" who have maybe been laid off and affected by the tough economy. I saw your calendar online and would love to come to one of the play dates either July 27 or August 17th in Bellevue. This is my personal email, as this is my first day of work and they haven't set up my work email yet. Feel free to get back to me at your convenience at this address and we can go from there!&nbs p; I will be covering a lot of human interest/feature stories in the community so if you have any story ideas that fall under that category, please feel free to pass them my way! | Dana Rebik | July 7th, 2009 |
| A Dad's Point-of-View by Bruce Sallan | Hi, my name is Bruce Sallan and I’ve been a full-time single Dad for most of my two boys’ lives. Their Mom is no longer in their lives (a story of its own), so when I say full-time I mean it. I have been writing a column, “A Dad’s Point-of-View, about being a single Dad, about dating after divorce, dealing with a teenager, adding a step-mom into the picture (as of Dec. 27, 2008 when we got married) and all the (seasonal) events that occur year-round, for a local paper for several years. My recent self-syndicating efforts, to date, have currently extended my reach and column to a larger audience of over 50 papers or sites in 18 different states, including two sites in the UK, one in India, and one forthcoming in Australia. | Bruce Sallan | July 6th, 2009 |

| Project Participant Inquiry | I am writing to inquire about your assistance in an intimate discussion I am putting together in July with Maria Shriver. I found your e-mail from the seattledads.org website, and hope to discuss with you the possibility of helping us with a new project of Maria Shriver called A Woman’s Nation. This project looks at two firsts in our nation’s history – women are becoming the primary breadwinners in America and make up fully half the workforce – and the consequences of this seismic shift on our country’s institutions. Specifically, I am organizing a small and private roundtable discussion in Seattle with Maria and men to discuss their changing roles and hear their personal experiences. If this is something you would like more information about and/or think you could help me locate interested participants, please let me know and I would love to talk further about this at your convenience. | Rebecca Beland | June 23rd, 2009 |

| Developing TV Series, looking for Stay-At-Home Dads. | My name is David Schiavone. I am a San Francisco based television and commercial producer. My company is called High Line Films. Our main office is located in New York City. I am writing because we are in the middle of developing a docu-style TV series. The “untitled project” will focus on one to three stay-at-home dads; exploring the fun their day to day lives as well as exploring the more complicated topics of making ends meet, having a social life, the psychology of being “Mr. Mom” and tackling hard parental decisions. Like the hit TLC show Jon and Kate Plus 8, our show will be an expose` of these dads and their families. We strongly believe it will only take a short time before audiences around the country start relating to these men as well as start caring about them. The ultimate goal is to create programming that is both entertaining but also heartfelt. With that I am writing you because we are currently in search of stay-at-home or single dads to interview, for casting purposes. I was wondering if you could recommend some forums that we could post a bulletin on. Thank you in advance for any consideration you can give me. | David Schiavone | January 12th, 2009 |

You are more than welcome to check us out online. http://tlc.discovery.com/ | Andrew Strauser | October 13th, 2008 |
| Big Brothers Big Sisters | Hello! I work for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound. We are a nonprofit mentoring organization, which has been running in the area for over 50 years. We currently have a lot of volunteers in the Seattle area (especially female volunteers), so we’re trying to reach out to families, to let them know that we are available. Our program is free for all families, and gives kids some extra activities, as well as another adult to spend time with. Parents and caregivers also get a little bit of a break during the week, and some time to themselves. | Erin Wenzel | September 18th, 2008 |
| Request from fellow 'At-Home Dad Network' member | Hello. I am a fellow Yahoo group member and I am working toward my Ph.D. in clinical and school psychology. I am currently doing my independent research, which is an online survey that investigates the reasons why parents would not seek therapy for their child, if the child were demonstrating specific behaviors. The survey is totally confidential and should take about 15 minutes to complete. It is designed specifically for parents only, so I beg you to please complete this survey and please send this link to all the other parents that you know so that they can fill it out and pass it on, as well. | J. McNeill | August 30th, 2008 |

| PRIME TIME SHOW SEEKING SAHDS | Greetings ~ My name is Julia Jenkins and I am a casting producer for ABC families hit reality show 'Wife Swap.' We are currently casting for our fourth season and we are looking for families where the dads stay home and the moms work outside the home. The premise of Wife Swap is simple: for seven days, two wives from two different families with very different values exchange husbands, children and lives (but not bedrooms) to discover what it's like to live a different family's life. It's an interesting social experiment and a great way to see your family in a whole new light. It is shot as a documentary series, so NO scripts and no set. It's just one camera that is documenting your life. Families that appear on the show receive $20,000 as a thank you. And if you refer a family that appears on the show you would receive $1000. Here at 'Wife Swap' we look for a two-parent home with at least one child between the ages of 6 and 17 living at home full time. If you are interested, please email me your contact information and tell me a little about your family. Or if you would like to refer a family, please email me their contact information and I will be in touch. Thank you! | Julia Jenkins | June 17th, 2008 |
| New Website Resource for Fathers | Hello, my name is Jason, I will be a new father of a little girl in October and was looking around the web for resources for fathers. It was very limited and therefore, I have created a site where fathers can come and trade tips and tricks and just shoot the breeze. www.justdaddys.net is a place where Dads can come and just be Dads. They can discuss issues that are pertinent to them and see what other fathers are doing from around the net. JustDaddys is laid back and relaxed community and currently is growing everyday. We were recently mentioned on ABCnews.com (Daddies go Digital), and have been blogged about in a couple of blogs. I would like to take this moment to extend a personal welcome to your entire organization and all of its members. I would be willing to create a forum section just for your group where you could discuss and trade tips via the forum, along with meet new people from around the net. If you are interested, please join up and introduce yourself or email me at jason@justdaddys.net, to discuss further details. | Jason | June 16th, 2008 |
| "Culture for Kids: Raising Global Citizens" Panel on 5/15 | I’d like to invite Seattle Dads to a free community event on May 15 at Seattle Children’s Theatre—“Culture for Kids: Raising Global Citizens.” It’s an opportunity for parents to hear from a group of experts about integrating language and culture into young children’s lives to promote compassion. From the principal of John Stanford International School to the editor of Multilingual Living, it’s a cool group of people with inspiring stories, who are passionate about early language learning and can talk frankly about its challenges and rewards. | Taryn Zier | May 1st, 2008 |
| Masters thesis on how dads feed toddlers | I am a graduate student at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, CA currently working on my master’s thesis. The working title is: Fathers feeding toddlers: An investigation of how dads feed their children. The overwhelming majority of existing research regarding how “parents” feed their children is based on responses from mothers. My goal is to begin to fill the void by describing how fathers feed their little ones. For clarification, the “how” I am interested in is not the “what” children are being fed but rather the context and dynamics of meal times and snacks. Also, “feeding”, as used here, relates to the overall process of kids eating, not actually putting food into a child’s mouth. My interest in this topic comes about based on my experience as: a registered dietitian who has worked with hundreds of families with young children, a mother of a toddler, and the daughter of a father who stayed home to raise me. I am looking for dads willing to participate in an interview (45 to 60 minutes) about their child-feeding practices. | Bobbie Kokorowski, RD, CLE | April 24th, 2008 |

| Get the Lead Out | This year Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports, has launched the "Get the Lead Out This Holiday Season" campaign. So far this year more than 20 million toys have been recalled – and that's not including all the other hazardous products. If you are left feeling a bit scared and confused shopping for loved ones this holiday season – you are not alone. We’ll also be holding fun and exciting events all over the country (one of those places being in the Twin Cities) where groups of Safe Shoppers and Consumers Union staffers will be wearing "Get the Lead Out" tee-shirts, handing out materials and talking with the local media! | Morgan Jindrich | November 14th, 2007 |
| Interview about Stay-at-Home Dads | I'm a journalism student at Northwestern University, and I'm writing a story about the recent increase in the number of stay-at-home fathers in the U.S. Would it be okay if I interview you for my story? Unfortunately, my professor doesn't allow e-mail interviews, but a phone interview would work great. My story is due Thursday at about noon. When would be a good time for you? I'm free tomorrow morning from about 10-11:30 central time and tomorrow night after 7. The interview would last no longer than 15 minutes. | Andrew Scoggin | November 13th, 2007 |

| Say "Boo!" to the Flu on October 25, 2007 | More than 75 percent of moms say they do not get their whole family vaccinated against the flu, even though the flu is the leading cause of vaccine-preventable deaths for kids. The CDC recommends all children ages 6 months to 5 years get vaccinated against the flu, but a recent CDC report found just 21 percent of children were fully vaccinated. Now Seattle parents have any easy way to treat their families to a healthier flu season, when the traveling nationwide Say “Boo!” to the Flu tour stops at the Redmond Town Center on October 25, 2007 from 3:00PM – 6:00PM. October is the start of flu season and the Visiting Nurse Services of the Northwest is joining the Visiting Nurse Associations of America, Families Fighting Flu and The Clorox Company to vaccinate thousands of families across the country and give them flu-fighting tips. At the event, nurses from the Visiting Nurse Services of the Northwest will vaccinate all members of the family and host fun, interactive games for families to learn how to help prevent the spread of the flu virus. Kids quickly forget about a flu vaccination when they are getting their faces painted or dressed in Halloween costumes! Families can also get free giveaways like T-shirts, stickers and Clorox disinfecting products. | Michelle Wang | September 28th, 2007 |
| ABC TV Inquiry | My name is Danielle Gervais. I'm a Casting Producer for ABC's Primetime show, "Wife Swap." I hope you don't mind me contacting you, but we're gearing up for a fourth season at the moment and we're currently looking for unique families with LOTS of personality! Specifically, I'm looking for a family with a hands-on, stay at home dad who is passionate about raising his children! Please feel free to forward this email on to anyone you think would be interested in taking part in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. In case you are unfamiliar with the show, the premise of Wife Swap is to take two different families and have the moms switch places to experience how another family lives. Half of the week, mom lives the life of the family she is staying with. Then she introduces a "rule change" where she implements rules and activities that her family has. It's a positive experience for people to not only learn but teach about other families and other ways of life. Wife Swap airs on Disney owned ABC television on Mondays at 8 pm- the family hour! | Danielle Gervais | August 17th, 2007 |
| Supernanny | I'm the casting director for the show Supernanny on ABC. I don't know if you watch the show or are familiar with it, but we're excited this season to feature more active and invested Dads on our show. We're coming to the Seattle area next week for an event in Redmond as well as to visit some families (including a family with a stay-at-home dad), and I'm hoping you might be willing to help me get the word out to area families. The experience isn't for everyone, but if folks need help, this is one very intense way to get help. | Nick Gilhool | July 27th, 2007 |
| interview | I'm a contributing editor at Family Circle magazine and I'm doing a series on the family. One of the stories will focus on a family with a stay-at-home dad—perhaps you, or you might know a suitable candidate in your group. I'm looking for a family with at least one child of about 9 or older, so I can talk to the kids as well. Generally, I've found children younger than that are a little shy of strangers asking questions on the phone. It would take a few hours of the family's time, though the initial interview would only be about twenty minutes. I should mention that this family would be a candidate for the story, since I have to present three options to my editor, who will then choose from them. The dad doesn't have to be full time stay at home, as long as he's rearranged his working hours to be home with them some of the day and acts as primary caretaker at least some of the time. For example, a night-shift worker who's on day duty with his school-age kids. | Mary Mohler | June 22nd, 2007 |
| Father's Day Gift Idea | Does someone keep asking you what you want for Father's Day? Tell them you'd like a copy of the new book, "Stay-at-Home Dad. Stay. Good Boy." The book includes more than 30 pieces that I've written for my "Newbie Dad" column in Western New York Family magazine. The column was recently named one of the best humor columns of 2006 by Parenting Publications of America, the trade association for more than 150 parenting magazines across the country. A quick and easy read, it's a perfect way to have some laughs and relive your stay-at-home dad experience. | Brian Kantz | May 22nd, 2007 |
| media request | I'm working on a story about stay at home dads and saw an event your group is putting on this morning at the arboretum. Would we be able to swing by and get a few interviews with you guys? | Lisa Van Cise | April 25th, 2007 |
| request for interview for ParentMap magazine | My name is Derek Blaylock and I'm writing an article for ParentMap magazine about the changing nature of fatherhood. As part of the piece, I would like to interview a genuine stay-at-home dad. The interview shouldn't take more than 30 minutes and I hope to have it conducted sometime this week. Either telephone or face-to-face are fine. My schedule is very flexible. | Derek Blaylock | April 9th, 2007 |
| introduction | I just wanted to say hi an introduce myself. I publish a newsletter & website for parents in Seattle called Red Tricycle (www.red-tri.com). Paul Nyhan also wrote about us last year. We now have over 5000 subscribers to the newsletter- not sure how many are male, but quite a few - maybe 15% (just a guess based on email addresses). At any rate, if your group has any news or events that would interest the greater Seattle community, please let us know - many of the events we cover are non gender specific, but if there's an opportunity to service the dads, we'd like to... | Jacqui Boland | March 28th, 2007 |

| ABC Television | My name is Kirstin and I am a Casting Producer for ABC Televisions show, Wife Swap. I am reaching out to you in hopes that your group can help me find a family for our show. We are specifically looking for a family where dad stays home and cares for the children and the house. We want to feature a family where "traditional" gender roles are reversed. Mom works full time and is the sole provider and dad "does it all" at home. The premise of the show is to take two very different families and switch the mom's for a week. Each family should consist of two parents and at least one child over the age of five and should reside in the continental U.S. It's a positive experience for people to learn about other families and other ways of life. My hope is that you would post this to your yahoo group so that anyone interested in applying, will be able to contact me. This is a very unique experience that can be life changing for everyone. In addition, each family that tapes an episode of Wife Swap receives a $20,000 honorarium. Anyone who refers a family that appears on our program receives $1000 as a 'thank you" from us. | Kirstin Dodich | October 17th, 2005 |
